RACE REPORT
The 6th year of KL Mountain Bike Carnival this 2008 was a raving success and probably one of the best races yet, with the perfect weather and cycling conditions - hot with some cloud cover here and there; muddy, technical and downright fun riding! The two days of racing saw over 170 riders signing up for a lil' bit of Kiara madness...
The Men's Elite race saw non other than defending champion Bandi Sugito from Indonesia taking home the 1st place once again for the 3rd year running. Eventhough conditions were slick in some areas, Bandi seemed to be pretty consistent in his 9 minute or so per lap, finishing his 6 laps in just under 59 minutes. His closest contender, Shahrin Amir came in almost 3 minutes later, while Ahmad Shakir Ismail came in 3rd, almost 15 minutes after Bandi. In the Women's Elite race, defending champion Masziyaton Md. Radzi completed her 4 laps in a fast 54 minutes 45 seconds, not as quick as her 2007 timing but she was also just as consistent with her 13 minutes laps. Noor Azian Alias came in over 3 minutes after her, while number 3 went to Masziyaton's compatriot from Kedah, Nur Syuhaini Othman.
In the age group races, the timings per lap in each category showed a marked slowdown across the board due to the 'sticky-ness' of the race course, being the rainy season.
