:: RULES & REGULATIONS ::

1.0 GENERAL RULES
1.1 You may ONLY use 26” or 29” wheeled mountain bikes. (You must start, and complete the entire race with your entire bike)
1.2 You may ride, push or carry your bike the entire course, but are not allowed to block a fellow competitor.
1.3 No cyclo-cross bikes, touring bikes or road bikes allowed.
1.4 Helmets are compulsory.
1.5 Shoes or footwear covering the entire foot are compulsory and must be worn throughout the entire race.
1.6 The prepared racing number plates are to be used in the front of the bikes. Number plates are to be secured to the bike with the provided zip ties, you may ALSO use any other form of attachment
1.7 Bending, cutting or modifying of prepared number plates is strictly not allowed. No replacement will be made available
This practice will result in immediate disqualification without enquiry.
1.8 All cloth race number tags will need to be placed on the lower back of your jersey and right thigh.
1.9 Any width-sized tires may be used. Competitors may use semi slick tires but NO road slick tires.
1.10 All competitors are to be responsible for any of your own mechanical breakdowns or issues arising on the trail/track. ie: flat tire, broken chain, broken seat-post, etc.
1.11 To be eligible FOR prize money, you MUST FINISH the designated amount of laps.
1.12 Rules will be applied but due discretion will also be exercised on a case to case basis.

2.0 HEATS and FINALS
2.1 There will only be heats for categories with more than 18 competitors.
2.2 For categories with heats, only the Top 15 riders overall, based on
timing will move on to the finals.
2.3 For race results please refer to the competitors’ notice board at the
race secretariat.
2.4 The Race Schedule will be posted on the Notice Board at Race Secretariat at 6.30am on race morning. Please check back regularly
for final qualifications, timings and updated event schedule.

3.0 ASSISTANCE
3.1
All competitors are to be responsible for any of your own mechanical
breakdowns or issues arising on the trail/track. ie: flat tire, broken chain, broken
seat-post, etc.
3.2 You may NOT seek any form of external mechanical assistance from your team
management or supporters outside of the race.
3.3 Mechanical assistance can be provided by your team management only at the designated feed zone, all repairs need to be done by the rider involved.
NO physical assistance is allowed to rider involved by anybody.
3.4 Failure to finish the race either by mechanical or injury will render the competitor
a ‘Did Not Finish’ (DNF) Status.
3.5 There will be a designated feed zone, team management or team personnel may hand out water, refreshments or assistance to riders in this designated feed zone.
3.6 Team management or personnel are NOT allowed to run alongside competitors or block other competitors from receiving aide.
3.7 Handing out of aid or mechanical assistance must be static.
3.8 Competitors may receive verbal mechanical assistance but NO physical mechanical assistance
ie : changing of a flat tire will need to be done by rider involved , spares provided for by team management.

4.0 PRIZE MONEY
4.1 To win prize money you MUST FINISH the designated amount of laps.

5.0 RACE START and FINISH format
5.1 Please be at the race start area 25 minutes, before start time.
You will need to SIGN IN at the designated sheet next to your name and number.
If you do NOT sign in, you will NOT receive an official classification and timing, resulting inplacing.
Representatives o you NOT qualifying for your final.
Race management will NOT be announcing individual names or numbers.
5.2 Race management will announce your racing category and you will need to
report to the holding area. And go through the above process (5.1)
5.3 Once you have reported in, it will be your responsibility, to listen for the following:

1st announcement - 15 min countdown
2nd announcement - 10 min countdown
3rd & final announcement - 5 min (competitors to move to START line)

Subsequently it will be 3 minutes, 1 minute, 30 seconds. The air horn may sound at any point after the last 30 sec announcement.

Late entries will not be entertained nor entry fee refunded.

Upon FINISHING the race you are to sign out. The sign out area will be at the same place you signed in.
In the absence of your signing out signature, you will not be given any official classification or r team management are STRICTLY PROHIBITED from signing in for fellow competitors

6.0 PROTEST
6.1 In the event of a protest, protests MUST be filed officially in writing, at the race
secretariat within 10 mins of crossing the line, accompanied with a RM 100
deposit. No verbal protest will be entertained.
6.2 Your deposit will be returned if your protest is successful.
6.3 The deposit will be forfeited if your protest is unsuccessful.
6.4 Protests forms are available at the race secretariat.
6.5 A decision will be made within 30 mins of filing of the protest. Race
management’s decision is final.
6.6 Rules will be applied but due discretion will also be exercised on a case to case
basis.

:: FAQ'S ::

1. How long or far is the race course track?
The race course is approximately 2.2km, the distance of each race will depend on your age category and the number of laps your category has been designated to complete.

2. Do I have to do the heats?
Yes, you will need to have completed the heats on Saturday to qualify for the finals on Sunday, or just to get a seeding for Sunday’s race. (Only Men Elite racers, Youth racers and all Women category racers will not be required to race in the heats to qualify. However, everyone is MUST REGISTER for the race on Saturday)

3. How technical is the trail?
The trail or route is fairly technical with a number of tricky sections, it is recommended that you try out to track regularly before racing

4. Will I be allowed to test or ride the track before the race?
Yes, the race track is open all year round and well indicated and well ridden, on the Saturday of the heats and Sunday of the race, the track will bee closed off to all leisure riding and testing.

5. Can I get off my bike to push?
Yes, you may dismount your bike and push as and when you please, but look out for faster riders and allow them to overtake.

6. Do I need a front suspension on my bike to race?
It is not a requirement, but it is strongly recommended.

7. Is the track muddy or sandy?
The condition of the track will depend on the changing weather conditions, our best advise is to not use semi slick tires.

8. Do I need a helmet to race?
YES.

9. Are the timings for the heats and finals finalised?
The FINALISED timings for all races will be up on the notice board at the race secretariat, on the morning of you race kit pick up from 10 am onwards.

10. Do I need to register before I race in the heats or Sunday’s race?
YES. Registration for the heats and the race will be on Saturday from 10am to 2pm. You will not be allowed to race in the heats or the race on Sunday if you have not registered on Saturday with the Race Secretariat.

11. How early do I need to arrive before my race?

At 30 min there will be the 1st announcement, at 20 mins the 2nd announcement, at 15 mins you will called into the staging area, at 5 mins you will be called to line and subsequently 3mins, 1 min, 30 secs, after which the starters horn may blow, at any time between 30 secs and 0 secs

12. After the heats who qualify’s for the finals?
The 15 fastest riders based on timing will advance to the finals.

13. What is the qualifying time for the finals?
There is no qualifying time for the finals, the 15 fastest riders will advance to the finals

14. Do I need to wear the body number provided?

YES, it is compulsory to wear the number at the start, during and at the finish, you are to wear the body numbers as laid out, 1 pc on your lower back, and 1 pc on your right leg.

15. Where do I place the prepared number plate?
On the front of your bike, secured to your handlebars and bike, you are not allowed to modify, bend, cut or manipulate the prepared number plate without prior approval from the race management, any display of the conditions will result in immediate disqualification.

16. If I have a mechanical breakdown what should my plan of action be?
You are to repair all breakdowns on your own, broken chain, flat tire etc, etc. You may get mechanical assistance from your team at the feed zone, but you must do all repairs on your own, the ONLY mechanical assistance that may be rendered by your team mates or team management is bringing you the required spares.

17. If I require feeding during my race, what is the procedure?
The race does not prepare neutral feeders, you may get a member of your team to feed you at the designated feed zone, within the designated feed zone indicated with “FEED START” and “FEED END”
Feeders are not allowed to run alongside their riders, feeders must remain static during feeding.

18. Will there be riders blocking my path?
The KL Mountain Bike Carnival race is one of the most technical trails around the region with a lot of singletrack, there are designated areas for overtaking and you may overtake at any point on the race course, you are to use due discretion in every instance and evaluate every tactic accordingly, Yes, there may be instances of riders blocking your path, mostly not intentionally.

19. How soon will I be able to get my results?
During the heats, provisional results will be posted as and when they are prepared, 30 min after the conclusion of the final heat in that category.
During the finals the provisional results will posted around 20 – 30 mins after each race.

20. I am really interested to participate but have only been mountain biking for 3 months, can I race?
You are encouraged to try out the track regularly before the race, as different individuals progress at different rates of improvement. Yes, you may race, however we encourage you to practise regularly.

21. Do I need to be a professional rider to race?
NO, the KLMtB carnival race appeals to broad spectrum of people, with age categories ranging from 18-30, 31-35,36-40 and 40 above.
As well as Women’s Elite (for sponsored, national and/or state riders) and sport categories(weekend riders/amazons/warriors).

22. What else is there for me to do during that day?
There is a whole host of activities lined up for the day with an abundance of food, signings by various stars, shows and performances, treasure hunts, sports demonstrations and various talks, free health screenings and a showcase of lifestyle goods.
